With its graphite black housing and stainless steel accents, the Bunn STX coffee maker not only delivers a tasty cup of joe, it looks good while doing it!
This smart-looking machine also offers a variety of quality features…
Like the other home brewers from Bunn-O-Matic, this model provides a ten cup pot of coffee in no time at all – in fact, three minutes is all that it needs. It comes with a double-walled stainless steel thermal carafe, which is able to keep coffee at serving temperature for two hours. Instead of a drip design, this unit has Bunn’s unique sprayhead, which creates the right amount of turbulence to expose all coffee ground to the water, evenly and thoroughly extracting flavor.

Bunn STX Coffee Maker
First, let’s talk about the appearance of this machine. Of the home brewers from Bunn, this one gets our vote for most attractive. Of course, we are a little partial to stainless steel, which this machine has plenty of. The brew funnel and thermal carafe are all eye-catching, and accented perfectly by the machine’s black graphite housing.
As mentioned in the intro, this coffee maker is able to brew a full pot in three minutes. This is a nice feature, but to know whether or not it is right for you, you need to know how it is able to do this…
In order to take advantage of its quick brew time, this machine must remain plugged in at all times. The water in the heating tank stays at 200 degrees F, unless the coffee maker is unplugged or the heating tank is turned off at the vacation switch. If this happens, the machine then needs an additional fifteen minutes to warm the water in the tank before brewing can start. Based on this, if you are the kind of person that does not like to keep home appliances plugged in or will only be using this coffee maker occasionally, this model may not be right for you.
Bunn has a unique sprayhead design. The water from the heated tank quickly travels through the sprayhead, creating turbulence in the brew funnel. This turbulence uniformly wets the grounds, thoroughly extracting flavor. Because of this, only Bunn’s coffee filters should be used in the brew funnel. Other coffee filters are too shallow, causing grounds to spill over and end up where they shouldn’t.
The double walled thermal carafe is able to keep coffee hot for two hours. This eliminates the need for a warming plate. You also won’t find yourself dumping the coffee out because of a burnt flavor.
The Bunn STX retails for right around $200. To learn more about this model and to take a sneak peek at its Use & Care Guide, visit the Bunn-O-Matic website.
Consumer Reviews of the Bunn STX
To find out what owners of this coffee maker think about it, we went to Amazon. As of this writing, this machine had a strong 4-1/2 star (out of 5 stars) rating, with almost fifty people leaving feedback. Visitors to this site have also posted their own Bunn STX reviews.
What did the Amazon reviewers like about the machine? The thermal carafe received rave reviews. Many people stated that it kept coffee hot for three hours and was easy to pour, with no dribbles ending up on the counter. Another nice thing is that the thermal carafe kept coffee hot, no matter where you put it. For example, if you like to drink cup after cup sitting at your office desk, you can place it at the corner of your desk, instead of making trips to the coffee maker. The sleek and modern appearance of the machine, the durability of the carafe and basket, the quick brew time, and the taste of the coffee also all received thumbs up.
Nothing is perfect, including the Bunn STX, so there were a few complaints. Although it has a quick brew time, the fact that this machine has no programmable features was a problem for some. Also, many reviewers noted that they could not use filters from other brands, because the grounds would overflow the basket. Other comments included that it was difficult to get the last bit of coffee out of the carafe and the that mouth of carafe was too narrow for cleaning. Finally, some reviewers were dismayed to find out the machine was made in the China.
